Homeopathy + Hormone Testing: How I work

I’m guessing you are here because your hormones are out of balance.  I get that.  That was the me too, and how I ended up here, doing this work.

I know what it’s like to be buried in unexplainable symptoms, only to be told by your doctor that ‘your blood test is fine’.  That exact expeirence led me to see a homeopath and do a nutritional detox because what I discovered was that I was perimenopausal, on the blood sugar roller coaster, all of which was fuelled by chronic stress.

That resulted in me studying homeopathy, women’s health coaching and everything I could then find that related to hormones.  If you are interested in my qualifications, you can find them listed here.

With everything I have learnt, I still see myself as a homeopath first – and that changes everything about how I work with hormones.

How does homeopathy help with hormones?

Hormone imbalances don’t happen out of the blue.  They are not down to one thing.  And they are never about just one hormone.

All hormones work together in a finely balanced system that is affected by the adrenals, the gut, the liver, and even toxin exposure.  And all of that is affected by stress – both current and long-term stress.  Everything from what our childhood was like, to trauma, abuse, grief, and unresolved anger influences hormone balance.

Homeopathy looks at all of this.

So before I look at anything else, I want to understand:

      • When your symptoms actually started — and what was going on in your life at that point, or in the months before
      • What’s happening with your gut, your blood sugar, your liver and bowel
      • How are your stress levels, how do you manage stress, and what support people/practices do you have in place?  Or are you giving all of yourself away to supporting others?
      • Childhood patterns and early experiences that may have shaped how your nervous system responds to stress
      • Any significant losses, trauma, or sustained pressure in your history
      • Exposures to synthetic hormones or any other toxins

Homeopathic remedies for perimenopause symptoms

Why?  Because the body carries it all – and as homeopaths, we know this.  We see the mind and body as one.  We see you as a unique individual that has had many experiences that have led you to feel the way you do.

So what makes homeopathy different from any other ‘hormone balancing modality’ is that it:

  • treats the whole person — your mind and body as one connected system, not separate problems
  • Remedies are chosen for you, not for a diagnosis or a hormone type
  • It can address physical symptoms alongside mental, and emotional, all whilst supporting hormone-essential organs, detox and elimination pathways
  • It reaches a layer that testing and nutrition alone can’t — the deeper pattern that’s actually driving what you’re feeling physically

So a hormone result from a blood test, without that context, only tells me part of the picture. The most effective treatments come from understanding the whole story first.

That means, two women can have an almost identical hormone result and need completely different treatment plans. Because I’m not prescribing for the result. I’m prescribing for the woman.

Homeopathy + Hormone Testing

Alongside homeopathy, I use functional hormone testing:

Hormone testing — DUTCH Hormone Panel

The DUTCH test (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) shows me your full hormone picture — oestrogen, progesterone, and a complete cortisol rhythm across the day. A standard blood test gives you a single snapshot. The DUTCH shows what your hormones are actually doing — how they’re being made, metabolised, and cleared. This is why you can have a “normal” blood test and still feel far from normal.

Why test your hormones with a Dutch Test?

Maybe your friend swears by Agnus Castus for her PMS, so you tried it too — and it didn’t touch yours. That’s because her PMS and your PMS might be driven by completely different things, even if the symptom looks the same from the outside. The DUTCH test shows me which hormones are actually out of step for you — oestrogen, progesterone, cortisol, or some combination — or whether the real issue is something further downstream, like liver health.  Instead of guessing, we can see exactly what your body needs.

Hormone testing – HTMA

HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) looks at your mineral status over the past three to four months, using a small hair sample. Minerals are the spark plugs of the cells — without the right minerals, in the right balance, your cells can’t produce energy properly.  That means your hormones can’t be made or regulated efficiently, or get into the cell efficiently.  The HTMA specifically tells me about your metabolic rate, how well your adrenals and thyroid are functioning and how well you are coping with stress.  HTMA also tells me exactly which supplements you actually need, and which you don’t — which matters, because most women come to me already taking a shelf of supplements they’re not sure are doing anything.

How testing your minerals can help your hormones

This is the test that tends to surprise people most. You’d expect a hormone problem to need a hormone test — but what if your hormone issue is a mineral imbalance?  For example, progesterone production requires adequate zinc levels; copper and oestrogen have a bidirectional relationship; and looking at the ratio of calcium to potassium tells me how well your thyroid is functioning at a cellular level.  Hormone balance starts with healthy adrenals, and the ratio of sodium to magnesium tells me about the state of your adrenals. There is so much to learn about hormones from the state of your minerals.

How I use homeopathy to support hormone testing

Together, these tests do two jobs. They tell me exactly what’s happening in your body right now — so any nutrition and supplement recommendations I make are built for your biochemistry, not a generic list.

And just as importantly, they sharpen my homeopathic prescribing. A remedy chosen with this level of detail behind it is a different thing entirely to one chosen from a symptom list alone. Testing allows me to select remedies that will:

  • Provide required organ support
  • Open up detox and elimination pathways
  • Support mineral balance
  • Address patterns that are showing up in testing when cross-referenced with one’s life story

This is what makes the two work so well together: testing tells me what’s happening, homeopathy treats the whole person underneath it.

Is Homeopathy + Hormone Testing Right For You?

I work with women in their 30s and 40s navigating hormonal change — whether that’s early shifts you can’t quite explain, more established symptoms, or supporting your body while trying to conceive.

If you’re looking for a one-size-fits-all, quick fix, this probably isn’t for you.

If you want someone who is going to work to understand what’s going on in your body, and come up with an individualised treatment plan based on your exact needs, then you are in the right place.
