The key to a healthy period is to reduce inflammat The key to a healthy period is to reduce inflammation and ensure we are consuming the correct nutrients for hormone production, metabolisation and detoxification. ⁣
⁣
Rule 1: Inflammation is the often the root cause of period problems – we don’t want to add fuel to the fire so avoiding inflammatory foods is essential. The biggest problem is sugar. The other foods that cause inflammation – gluten, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, soy and corn. ⁣
⁣
Rule 2: Cruciferous vegetables – i.e. broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale, pak choi – feed the microbiome which has to metabolise our hormones and support the liver to detox hormones. These vegetables are also full of fibre to help keep blood sugar levels stable, which in turn reduces inflammation. ⁣
⁣
Rule 3: Our sex hormones are made from cholesterol. We need healthy fats for hormone production. And they help to reduce inflammation. Think avocados, nuts and seeds, olive oil and coconut oil. ⁣
⁣
Rule 4: Protein is the building block of every cell function and many hormones are made from proteins. Protein is needed for hormone detoxification. Eating protein at every meal helps regulate blood sugar balancing, i.e. reduce inflammation. ⁣
⁣
Rule 5: Dehydration leads to inflammation. Dehydration can be seen all over the body including in the uterus and ovaries. ⁣
⁣
Rule 6: We have to eliminate excess oestrogen via the bowel every day. If we don’t rid the body of excess oestrogen, it is re-circulated causing hormonal imbalance. If you are not opening your bowels every day, re-visit all of the above rules. ⁣

Was this helpful? What areas do you need help with?
Have you ever thought about what you want your lif Have you ever thought about what you want your life to look like in the later years? ⁣
⁣
Do you want to be able to move well, avoid chronic disease, not be reliant on medications for normal healthy functioning of your vital organs? ⁣
⁣
These things are not something we just have to accept in old age. ⁣
⁣
We have the choice through the foods that we eat, to avoid inflammation. ⁣
⁣
Inflammation is the cause of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, digestive issues… in fact most health issues. ⁣
⁣
Eating an anti-inflammatory diet now, whatever your age, is an essential preventative measure. ⁣
⁣
That means avoiding inflammatory foods: sugar, gluten, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, soy and corn. ⁣
⁣
And eating: lots of fresh, colourful vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats. ⁣
⁣
If you struggle to give up or limit inflammatory foods, when you reach for them, hold that image of your future self in your mind and ask yourself, how do I want to feel? ⁣
